About

I'm Becky Sunter, an artist, weaver and maker of over 30 years and the face behind the tabby textiles brand.

I have been interested in textiles and crafts my whole life having received my first spinning wheel at fourteen which started my love for wool. When it came to deciding on a career I followed my passion and moved to Carlisle to study design crafts, specialising in rug weaving. From my technical training I was employed by the college as a weaving technician, advising students on weaving support and assisting in setting up the looms. From there I developed my love for teaching and passing on my knowledge of traditional textile skills. 

 

After moving to Darlington I was employed by the Darlington Arts Centre as a weaving tutor, teaching private courses to all ages. I was here for eight years until they closed down and I took this as an opportunity to further develop my existing business and to begin offering my own workshops and continue to create my own products. Eleven years later and I am still creating my own products and passing on my knowledge to my students.
